A simple Adventure, but fun and with lots of cool sound and speach. You play igor, servant of "The Master" who you have to help create a MONSTER!

All comments very welcome. I have a cool "Little Britain" adventure with all the speach and characters from the TV comedy (its in 2 parts and 20mb aech!) contact RE: ADRIFT iantommo@hotmail.com

Retro Feel, Sun 14th Aug 2011
By rotter - See all my reviews

Now I will start off by saying that I actually quite like Igor. It has a lovely retro feel to it which made me all misty eyed for good ole days of adventure games. Unfortunately it also suffers with many of the classic faults of the games of old (and a lot of recent games as well). Some of these faults I can forgive others I cannot.

I'm not overly fond of music or sound effects in IF games but in this one I think it actually added something to the play experience. Not too over the top (I will not ask about copyright). For this reason some of the sparse locations descriptions are appropriate as I assume the sound effect are designed to add the rest. This works to a point but -

x hall
You see no such thing

Really? I'm stood in it!

You can go up a tree but not climb it. Old games can get away with this but not ones written in 2009. In the same location as the tree you need to cut a rope to drop a body hanging from it. Unfortunately you can keep cutting the rope, which means you can keep getting the body. Text doesn't change either. One of the all time classic IF flaws.

Later you cannot open a coffin unless it is being carried. They tend to be rather large things and I would imagine not that easy to open if you are carrying one. Although I haven’t tried to do this myself.

Then we get to the old lever/switch puzzles issue (a fault that one or two of my games have suffered). Namely, to pull, push, switch, change etc. And then to pull, push, switch what. An example in the game -

Push boil
You push the Boil, but nothing happens (good old ADRIFT default responses!)

But Press Boil works.

Now as I've already said, I liked this game. It is a nice little quick diversion and a little bit different. But, it really needs some more work to overcome both typical IF flaws and some of the little tricks ADRIFT can play.
