In the main options an option for setting up default alternative descriptions along with the restrictions.
Every new location will automatically have it.

This would be handy for setting up light and dark location descriptions/time of day etc and anything else that might require a lot of locations to have alternative descriptions.
Flooded areas, areas on fire etc.

This should work with existing locations as well, updating them if the user comes up with an idea later in the development of their game.

Could you not use location groups for this?

Imagine you have twenty locations or more and they are already created and you realize that you game will have and event that will require many of those locations to have an alternative description for it. You would have to do each location individually to set this up.

What I am suggesting is a way to set it up once in a menu in options and it will be automatically applied to locations or all locations in group x. So it could be a global alternative description setup once. And perhaps the user could create several different ones if he/she wanted to.
.

So in main options, global alternative descriptions could be a window where you can create them the same way as you normally would in a location window, but with the difference being defining which locations will have this alternative description..via apply this to all locations in group.
This would also allow tweaking existing alternative descriptions that has been created with that.

Hope that makes better sense. Unless there is another way to do this?

Yes, using a location group. If all 20 locations are in the group, you can amend the Long Location Description property in the group when particular restrictions are met. You can either append to the normal descriptions, or replace, as per normal alternate descriptions.
