Currently it is possible to set an object or character name to a variable but the player cannot act on this object with the standard library.
An example of use would be to give the players a pet dog character which they could name. Then they should be able to do a "examine %dog name%" to look at it.

You could however do an "examine %text%" and just add a restriction that Referenced Text = %dogname%.
