When my gamefile gets above a certain size, it is now 229kb, if I try to open the dialogue box of an existing event, ADRIFT will hang for a few seconds - '(Not responding)' appears after the filename at the top - and a second or two later the event dialogue box opens but disappears behind the developer window.

This might be related(?): When the number of locations gets high, it takes longer to open a location in the Developer. At 150 locations it took about 2-3 seconds to open a location. At 291 locations it took about 5-6 seconds. If this pattern continues, it will be unbearable to work with very big games. I am currently aiming at 4900 locations. If the pattern continues, it will take 81 seconds to open a location!

I've submitted a pull request on GitHub that should resolve the slowdown issue with the locations, and likely the events as well.
