For the future, as Adrift receives stronger media capabilities, I think its time to visit media management within the editor.
A useful layer of abstraction would be the ability to "name" imported media. Tasks/descriptions, etc. would then reference these "names" instead of the files directly. This way, you can easily replace media without having to go hunt down everywhere you used it to make the changes.
I would also like to see a tab in the editor for all included media, such as images and sounds, and for them to be sortable by their user-defined names, media types (image, sound), or by how many different times they are used in the game. Media items that have errors should also be sort-able. When you click on these media items, a window pops up which lets you rename it, update it to point to a new media item of the same type, or preview it. A list of where it is being used would also be nice. |

Individually opening each media item one at a time to preview it could get annoying, so perhaps an image tab in the editor should be available like there is in the runner? |

Layer types could also be a useful feature: I would suggest Image, Group, and Switch. Image would be just that, a layer with one image. A group can contain any number of any layer type, including other groups, and would maintain their stacking order in relation to each other when it was moved in the stack hierarchy. Switches are like groups, except that they will only show one of the contained child layers at a time, be it a single image layer, a group, or another switch. |

Being able to edit layering and positioning in an outside editor could be handy, for which I think an XML import/export format would be a great idea. I've seen this done in another program, and we already have the Adrift Module Import/Export format which I believe is XML now. |
