How important is it to remember what you were if you know what you are now? A description of a perfetly regular place and two perfectly irregular people.

Not my cup of tea, Thu 6th Sep 2012
By Lazzah - See all my reviews

I admit straight away that the only reason I downloaded this game was curiosity after I saw the thread on the ADRIFT forum discussing it.

This is not a conventional adventure, I think the author is trying out some sort of "concept" on us.

On the first page - which is the title page, playing instructions and first "location" - you are instructed to "Advance through the game by simply writing the words that you see in the text, answering questions that are asked, or asking questions yourself." What the author means by that is that instead of typing "X sand", you just input "sand" to get some descriptive text. The problem is that if you type "sand" again you get the default response "I don't know that... But maybe I can think of something else". This happens for any noun that you get a descriptive message for.

You cannot go anywhere from the first page, typing in any direction produces the response "There is nowhere to go here.". Checking your inventory tells you that "I am carrying my heart". If you do what it says in the instructions, i.e. "If you are stuck, try typing the nouns you see in the text, or asking about them", if you (e.g.) ASK ABOUT HEART an error message pops up.

I am sorry, Teruka, for this negative review, but you need to start again with a conventional game. If the player is unable to move from the first location and nothing they type in gives them any clue as to what they are supposed to be doing, then they are going to dump the game PDQ, as I did.
