A Witch Tale - fun despite competition constraints, Sat 12th Mar 2022

Review of A Witch Tale:

This is a fairly short but well implemented, fun game with some entertaining puzzles.

This game was part of an ADRIFT competition with some significant restrictions. As a consequence, the games could have no more than 11 objects. The author solves this elegantly by telling the player upfront, that relevant objects are written with bold text. Thus, the player knows that they cannot interact with anything else than that.

The puzzles are quite original and fun. The only drawback was that one puzzle required a little knowledge of the Zork games. Luckily, I have played those, so it wasn't a problem.

Parser: 8/10
I never had a problem with the parser. You will both need TALK TO and ASK ABOUT.

Atmosphere: 7/10
Well written, quite verbose for a puzzly parser game.

Cruelty: Forgiving
It is my impression that the game cannot become unwinnable

Puzzles: 7/10
Quite original, though one puzzle needed special knowledge

Overall: 7/10
Overall I enjoyed it and I am glad I played it.
